Golfclub Landgoed Coudewater

Golf between convent banks and cold water

The name says it all. In 1434 sisters of the Order of Saint Birgitta founded a convent here, just outside Rosmalen, which they called Maria ad Aquas Frigidas: Mary of the Cold Waters. The convent disappeared in 1713, the name stayed. From 1870 the site was home to a psychiatric institution, with pavilions in a half circle around a central building. When the last residents left in 2018 the estate was given a new purpose, and since October 2021 that has included a full 9-hole course.

Golfclub Landgoed Coudewater itself is older than the course: the club started in 1992 as Golfclub Rosmalen, with six holes on the hockey club's fields. The new course was designed by Michiel van der Vaart of Jol Golf Design and had to fit into a protected nature area. The historic landscape of small fields with coppice banks was restored and the badger gained new habitat. The course meets the requirements for the NGF's A-status.

What this means for your round: water comes into play on all nine holes. At 2,585 metres from the yellow tees Coudewater is not a long course, but it is one where placement matters more than length. Leave the driver in the bag for a safe hybrid and you will rarely drop a shot.
