Golfclub De Dommel
Golf since 1928 on the Zegenwerp estate
Golfclub De Dommel was founded on 24 September 1928 on the Zegenwerp estate near Sint-Michielsgestel, which makes it one of the oldest golf clubs in the Netherlands. The first nine holes were designed by the English architect Harry Colt. The clubhouse by 's-Hertogenbosch architect H.W. Valk opened in 1930 and is still in use.
The course grew in stages. From 1979 Frank Pennink made changes, in 1984 De Dommel became the first Dutch club with a 12-hole layout, and in 2014 it was extended to 18 holes, with six new holes by Frank Pont. The landscape is that of the Dommel valley: stream valleys, rolling drift sands and heathland. Because of the estate's cultural and historical value the club holds NSW status, and a GEO certificate for sustainable management.
What this means for your round: the front nine is par 34 and the back nine par 36, together par 70. Water comes into play on fewer holes than on most polder courses. Here the trees and the rolling ground decide the line.
