Amsterdamse Golfclub
A club from 1934 on a course from 1990
The Amsterdamse Golfclub was founded in 1934 and from 1935 played in Duivendrecht, on a course by the English design firm Colt, Alison & Morrison. When the Dutch railways took back part of that land in the late 1980s, the course shrank to nine holes and the club went looking for a new home. It found one in the Houtrak polder near Halfweg: the current course on the Bauduinlaan opened on 21 September 1990, on more than 60 hectares, almost twice the size of the old grounds.
The course has a parkland character with ponds, reed beds and woodland. Besides the 18 holes there are six par-3 practice holes and a covered driving range. The wooden clubhouse was designed with input from an architect who is a member himself. One thing that sets the club apart: it has no tee times. Visitors register with the caddie master in advance.
What this means for your round: on both loops water comes into play on eight of the nine holes, and each loop has two par 5s and two par 3s. At almost 6,000 metres from the yellow tees over 18 holes, this is a full-length course where the long holes make the score.
